So, Tuesday evening I attempted a brick workout--an hour spin class, then a run to the museum. My normal inner thigh pain on the right had for some reason switch sides and now radiated down my left leg. What was this from?
After spin class, which gave me no trouble, I threw on my sweater and laced up my Brooks to venture into the chilly Philly February air and log some miles.
I started slow, my leg burned, pinched, twinged. I staggered back to campus and walked home from the gym. I immediately scheduled a visit with sports Med. for the next day.
Hmmm.. said the doc...sounds like a stress fracture...in your PELVIS?!?!?!
They scheduled a STAT MRI which I had on Friday.
Results were in by Friday afternoon: "NO RUNNING! NO BIKING! NO WEIGHT BEARING ACTIVITY! Your pubic rami are bleeding inside."
Oh my God! No...running? No...biking? These were my lifelines, my social strings, my stress relievers! So, I started swimming thinking it would make me a stronger triathlete.
I went into the Doc again the following week to get me "plan" of action. Deal was...no running. But, I had that March 23rd Marathon that I had been working to. I can still do it, right? Well, no training right now!
In the back of my head, I kept saying, I'll do it. If I have to, I will just do the half. No biggie. I can do that with little to no training.
So, weeks passed with no running, no biking. Just swimming. And swim I did. And the pain started to fade when I stood on one leg to pull my legs through my pants or washed my feet.
